Importance of Therapeutic Play
Not all parents know how to play with their children. The manner in which one plays can stimulate the child’s psycho-motor development in a fun way that supports parent-child bonding. This furnishes the basis of optimal intellectual and social development as well as the promotion of the child’s self esteem. Babies need time playing on their stomachs in order to explore their surroundings, strengthen their necks by raising it against gravity, have the opportunity to stretch and reach for a toy, push off the floor to roll, pull themselves to move forward on the floor, raise to the crawling position and more. During play, the child learns social norms such as sharing and taking turns.
