Neuro-developmental Technique
Is a technique developed by Dr. Karl Bobath and his wife Berta Bobath in the 1940’s for the treatment of children with cerebral palsy. Today it is the most accepted and recognized method worldwide for the treatment of children and adults with neurological diagnoses.
The principal goal is to facilitate the most normal type of movement and inhibit abnormal movement patterns. Facilitation is emphasized more then inhibition today. When there is brain damage, the messages that the brain sends to the muscles in the body become altered. The therapeutic management helps the patient experience a more correct movement pattern thereby sending the brain more normal information regarding the movement.
