Craniosacral Therapy (CST)
Was discovered and developed by Dr. John Upledger between 1975 and 1983 at the University of Michigan. CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle technique to facilitate the physiological system of the body called the CranioSacral System which consists of the membranes and cerebral spinal fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord. Using the cranial bones and the sacrum as a fulcrum, one liberates restrictions in the soft tissues including the fascia, muscles, the environment surrounding the nerves, veins and arteries and the structures at the cellular level. Through a series of holding positions, the therapist evaluates and treats the CranialSacral system applying gentle traction or lifting forces using no more pressure than 5 grams of force.
A restriction is the lack of normal physiological movement in the body. Most restrictions are located in the soft tissues of the body and result in inflammation, adhesions and/or somatic and neurological dysfunction. This treatment method can relieve or eliminate pain, migraines, chronic back or neck pain, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, tempromandibular joint (TMJ) discomfort, improve neurological function, improve childhood development, improve attention and learning among others.
