Occupational Therapy
Is an area in health care specializing in the evaluation and treatment of neurological, muscular and skeletal disorders. The occupational therapist is the professional responsible for attaining the highest level of function and independence for the activities of daily living such as self care skills, employment skills and purposeful activities.
Traditionally, the occupational therapist works in the area of fine motor control and cognition but there are other specialized areas such as vision, and sensory integration. In the treatment of children, physical and occupational therapy are similar especially when the child is very young. The treatment goal is to promote better neurological development, improving both gross and fine motor performance in balance, coordination, muscle strength, motor planning and cognitive function.
